| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a multi-line Arabic Kufic legend, reading 'Al-Malik Al-Adil' (The Just Ruler), rendered in bold relief characteristic of Zengid hammered copper coinage. The inscription is framed by a beaded or dotted border following the irregular outline of the flan. The die-work is robust and angular, consistent with the aniconic epigraphic style employed at the Dimashq mint during the reign of Nur al-Din Mahmud. The copper surface displays an even olive-green patina with areas of granular corrosion typical of long-circulated medieval Islamic fulus. |
