| Obverse description | Left-facing Gothic portrait effigy of Queen Victoria, crowned with an ornate medieval-style crown, her hair braided and flowing beneath. The queen is draped in an elaborately decorated Gothic-style robe with interlaced diamond and floral motifs, rendered in high relief. The legend curves around the full circumference of the coin within a beaded border, closely following the style of the celebrated 1847 Gothic Crown by William Wyon. The overall design is executed in the Gothic Revival aesthetic characteristic of mid-nineteenth century British numismatic art. |
