Obverse description Central design features a stylized castle gateway rendered within a polylobe frame embellished with alternating rosettes and trefoils, all enclosed by a beaded inner circle. The architectural motif — the emblem of Genoa — is executed in the flat, linear style characteristic of medieval Italian hammered gold coinage. The surrounding annular legend, set in uncial Latin characters, identifies the issuing doge as the eighth holder of that office. The inscription is separated from the central design by the beaded border, lending the composition a formal, heraldic quality.
