Additional information

Shahin Giray was the last Khan of Crimea, installed in 1777 as a Russian-backed ruler following the Treaty of Küçük Kaynarca, which stripped the Ottoman Empire of its protectorate over the peninsula. His reign was turbulent from the start — two of his brothers led revolts against him within the first years, and Russian troops repeatedly intervened to keep him on the throne. The khanate's coinage under Shahin Giray reflects an administration propped up by St. Petersburg rather than sustained by any domestic legitimacy.

He was deposed in 1783 when Catherine the Great formally annexed Crimea, making this series among the final autonomous issues of the khanate before its absorption into the Russian Empire.
