Obverse description Central field occupied by a multi-line Shahada inscription executed in bold thuluth script, reading the Islamic profession of faith together with the names of the Twelve Imams of Twelver Shi'a Islam. The text is arranged within a circular inner border, with the field divided by horizontal rules separating successive lines of the legend. A secondary marginal legend in thuluth script encircles the entire design within the outer border, continuing the enumeration of the Imams. The flan is irregular and slightly ragged at the periphery, characteristic of Safavid hammered gold coinage.

Reverse description Central field bearing a multi-line inscription in thuluth script arranged within a circular inner border, giving the ruler's title and name — Sultan Shah Ismail — together with the Hijri date 928 and the mint name Shiraz. The legends are boldly struck with deeply incised characters, the date numeral prominently placed in the central zone. A marginal legend in thuluth script runs within the outer border, continuing the epigraphic programme of the coin. The irregular hammered flan displays typical Safavid workmanship with a slightly convex strike.
