Reverse description The emperor stands facing, his head turned to the left, robed in military dress and holding a standard (labarum) in his right hand while his left rests upon a grounded shield. At his feet to the left, a bound barbarian captive is seated on the ground with head turned right, symbolizing Roman dominion over defeated enemies — a classic expression of the GLORIA ROMANORVM (Glory of the Romans) type. The reverse legend GLORIA RO-MANORVM flanks the central composition, with the mintmark of the Constantinople mint appearing in the exergue.
