Not a legal tender instrument, a government issue, or a legitimate financial document of any kind. Fantasy notes branded with the Titanic theme emerged as a cottage industry from the 1990s onward, sold as novelty collectibles and occasionally — misleadingly — marketed as "limited edition" pieces to buyers unfamiliar with the distinction between genuine currency and printed memorabilia.
