Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborate tughra of Sultan Mahmud I, rendered in the characteristic Ottoman calligraphic style with sweeping upward strokes (tuğ) and interlaced loops (beyze) typical of hammered silver coinage of the period. The tughra occupies the majority of the flan and is executed in bold relief. A border of raised dots (pearled border) runs along the lower periphery of the irregularly shaped flan. The silver surface shows the characteristic texture of hand-struck Ottoman coinage.
