Additional information

Otto II of Guelders spent much of his reign entangled in a grinding territorial contest with the bishops of Utrecht, and the Arnhem mint operated intermittently against that backdrop of dynastic pressure and shifting alliances. The vdCh 2#1.5 and 1.6 varieties indicate die differences documented by van der Chijs, suggesting the type was produced across multiple phases rather than a single concentrated emission.

At 0.2 g, these pieces were already light even by denier standards of the period — consistent with the broader debasement trend among the lower Rhine lordships through the mid-thirteenth century.
