| Obverse description | Facing bust of a bishop in high relief, mitred and vested, depicted in a frontal schematic style characteristic of early medieval ecclesiastical coinage. The figure holds a crozier in the right hand, the pastoral staff rendered as a simple vertical element rising above the shoulder. The facial features are boldly and crudely engraved, with large eyes and a stylized beard, consistent with Romanesque artistic conventions. A beaded inner border frames the central effigy. The peripheral legend reads +TeODeRICVS, identifying Bishop Theodericus (Diederik van der Ahr). |
