Brunei postal orders occupy an odd niche — issued by the Postal Services Department rather than the Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam, they functioned as a payment instrument outside the formal banking system, useful in a country where rural postal infrastructure long outpaced branch banking. Secura Singapore, a specialist security printer, produced a number of similar instruments for Southeast Asian postal administrations during this period.
The watermark is the sole mechanical security feature — modest by banknote standards, but consistent with postal order conventions across the region at the time.
