Obverse description The bimetallic obverse features depictions of Maltese monuments including a domed basilica and a neoclassical building in the upper field, flanked by a ring of EU stars. Two gold-toned coin reliefs are displayed centrally: one bearing the Maltese coat of arms with the legend MALTA and date 2008, the other a historical Maltese coin with denomination 50. The lower field depicts scenes of Maltese cultural heritage including megalithic temple ruins and traditional figures, all within a gold-plated outer ring.
