Obverse description Full frontal effigy of King David IV depicted in Byzantine imperial attire, wearing a stemma (jewelled crown), and holding a globus cruciger in his right hand. The royal figure is rendered in a hieratic, formal style characteristic of medieval Georgian and Byzantine artistic tradition. A Georgian Nuskhuri legend identifying the king appears in the field flanking or surrounding the effigy.
