San Marino has no central bank and no independent currency. It uses the euro under a monetary agreement with the European Union, which means it issues euro coins under its own authority but has never issued euro banknotes — those remain an ECB monopoly. A San Marino paper banknote dated 2025 does not correspond to any known issuance.
