Obverse description Facing Gorgoneion (gorgon's head) rendered in archaic Etruscan style, centrally positioned and occupying most of the flan. The face displays characteristic features: wide-open eyes, a broad flat nose, an open mouth with protruding tongue, and serpentine locks of hair radiating symmetrically around the visage. The value mark 'XX' appears in the field, denoting 20 asses. The overall relief is bold, with strong linear engraving typical of Populonian mint production.

Reverse description Plain field bearing a central eight-rayed star with elongated, tapering rays arranged symmetrically, rendered in incuse or low relief characteristic of the hammered technique. The Etruscan ethnic legend 'PVLPVNA' is inscribed around or adjacent to the star, identifying the issuing city of Populonia. The surface is irregular due to the hammered flan, with the design elements distributed across the slightly convex reverse.
