Reverse description A laureate female bust, personifying Cuba Libre, is portrayed in left-facing profile, rendered in a classical allegorical style by engraver Philip Martiny. The hair is elaborately dressed with a laurel wreath and bound tresses falling to the neck. The circular legend PATRIA Y LIBERTAD arcs around the upper field. The date 18 97 appears in the lower left field, widely spaced flanking the truncation, with PAT. 97. inscribed to the left. The word SOUVENIR is inscribed in large letters across the lower field. A beaded border encircles the entire design.
