| Obverse description | Full-length frontal effigy of Prince Vladimir the Great, enthroned or standing, holding a long cross in his left hand and a sword or sceptre in his right, depicted in Byzantine imperial regalia with crown and elaborate robes. A Cyrillic or proto-Cyrillic inscription encircles the figure in the surrounding field, identifying the prince. The design reflects strong Byzantine artistic influence, adapted to Rus coinage traditions of the late tenth and early eleventh centuries. |
