| Obverse description | Hammered gold flan of irregular roundness, entirely occupied by a multi-line Arabic tughra-style legend in bold relief against a plain field, enclosed within a beaded border. The inscription, executed in the characteristic interlocking thuluth script of Ottoman coinage, reads the royal titulature of Sultan Murad III ibn Selim Khan with the invocation 'May he be victorious.' The mint name Aleppo (Halab) and the AH regnal year 982 appear in the lower register, separated from the main legend by a horizontal line. The lettering fills the flan with dense, flowing strokes typical of mid-sixteenth-century Anatolian hammered gold issues. |
