Obverse description Epigraphic type struck in bold hammered relief, the field filled with a multi-line Arabic legend in thuluth script giving the ruler's name, patronymic, and title. The upper register bears the tuğra-style opening 'Sultan Selim bin Bayezid Khan, may his victory be glorified,' with the mint name 'Dimashq' (Damascus) and the Hijri date 924 inscribed in the lower field. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, typical of early Ottoman hammered gold coinage. No figurative imagery is present; the entire design is composed of calligraphic inscription.
