| Obverse description | Hammered gold field bearing a bold multi-line Arabic legend in characteristic Ottoman thuluth calligraphy, occupying virtually the entire flan. The inscription, rendered in deeply struck raised relief, carries the royal tughra-style titulature of Sultan Suleiman I. A dotted or beaded inner border frames the field, consistent with Ottoman sultani coinage of the early sixteenth century. The flan is irregular and slightly convex, typical of hand-struck Ottoman gold issues of the period. |
