A meal coupon issued by the student dormitory arm of the "Zvonko Brkić" Construction Education Centre in Zagreb. These institutional meal tokens were a standard feature of Yugoslav self-management economics — each OOUR (osnovna organizacija udruženog rada, a basic associated labour organization) operated semi-autonomously, including running its own canteen accounting through internal scrip rather than cash transactions.
Issued in 1990, this sits at the edge of Yugoslavia's terminal economic crisis, when hyperinflation was already eroding the dinar. Internal coupons like this one had a practical insulation from that chaos.
