Obverse description Schematized frontal bust of the king in the central field, rendered in a highly stylized late antique manner characteristic of Visigothic coinage, with a beaded or roped neckline and simplified facial features. The bust is flanked by the circular Latin legend + TVLGAN RE, separated by a cross at the top. A beaded inner border frames the central device, with the entire design executed in the bold, flat relief typical of hammered Visigothic tremisses.

Additional information

Tulga ruled the Visigothic Kingdom for roughly three years before being deposed and forcibly tonsured by Chindasuinth in 642 — a ecclesiastical humiliation designed to permanently disqualify him from kingship under Visigothic law. His coinage is correspondingly scarce, with Barbi among the rarer mint attributions of his already short reign.
