Obverse description A nude male figure, crouching in the field to the right, carves a large profile head in relief using a chisel and mallet. The legend URUGUAY appears in angular incuse letters along the left side of the field. The sculptor's signature E. PRATI is inscribed in the lower exergue.

Reverse description The reverse features a circular legend reading MINISTERIO DE INSTRVCCION PVBLICA along the upper rim and COMISION NACIONAL DE BELLAS ARTES along the lower rim. In the central field, the text XVIII / SALON NACIONAL / DE ARTES PLASTICAS is inscribed above a stylized depiction of a building facade, below which the recipient's name NERSES OUNANIAN appears within a panel, and the year 1954 is enclosed in a cartouche at the bottom.
