Obverse description Central field occupied by the elaborate imperial tughra of Sultan Mahmud I in bold raised relief, its characteristic loop and sweeping horizontal strokes dominating the design. Floral and foliate spray devices embellish the upper register above the tughra. Two lines of Arabic legend appear in the lower field, with the AH regnal year 1143 inscribed at the very base. The entire design is enclosed within a finely milled rope-pattern border.
