Ojós is a village in the Ricote Valley, Murcia, with a population that rarely exceeded a few hundred during the 1930s. That a settlement this small issued its own fractional paper currency is a direct consequence of the Republican government's chronic failure to supply adequate small coinage during the Civil War — metallic centimos and peseta fractions vanished from circulation almost immediately after July 1936, hoarded or melted down, leaving municipalities across Spain to print their own emergency scrip.
The Gari Monturiol reference is unconfirmed, suggesting this piece may not have been catalogued at the time of that corpus's compilation, or survives in very limited numbers known to specialists.
