Coll de Nargó is a small municipality in the Alt Urgell comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similar towns, it was forced to issue its own emergency fractional currency during the Spanish Civil War after the Republic's metal coinage disappeared from circulation almost immediately in 1936. These municipally-issued vals filled the void left by hoarded coins, and their legal standing was perpetually ambiguous — tolerated rather than formally authorized.
At this size and on card stock, durability in daily use was limited. Turró catalogues the series but survival rates for Coll de Nargó emissions are low even by the standards of Catalan Civil War local issues.
