The Alimentarium in Vevey owes its existence to Nestlé, which founded the museum in 1985 on the shore of Lake Geneva near its global headquarters. These zero-denomination souvenir notes are a French phenomenon that spread across European tourist sites after the European Central Bank explicitly permitted their production, provided no denomination recognizable as legal tender appeared on the face. Oberthur Fiduciaire, one of the few remaining security printers with the technical infrastructure to produce genuine banknote-quality paper and intaglio work, handles the entire series.
Collectibility is driven almost entirely by the museum or site issuing them, not by printing variation — the Oberthur production is consistent and without known errors in this run.
