The EuroSouvenir 0 Euro program, launched in France around 2015 and administered through licensed souvenir note operators, uses genuine banknote security paper and is printed by Oberthur Fiduciaire — one of the few private security printers with ECB authorization to produce euro-format material. These are not novelties run off on commercial presses; the production specifications mirror those of circulating currency, which is precisely the point of the program's appeal to collectors.
Burg Mildenstein, a Saxon castle above the Freiberger Mulde river, has medieval origins stretching to the twelfth century. The 2017 issue was part of the first wave of German tourist-site editions to enter the program.
