EuroSouvenir notes are a French-origin commercial series, launched in 2015, that repurposes the security printing infrastructure of legitimate euro production to create legally valid zero-denomination collector pieces. Oberthur Fiduciaire — one of the handful of firms trusted with actual euro banknote contracts — prints these on proper banknote paper with full intaglio and UV features, which is precisely why they circulate so freely through tourist markets without triggering counterfeit alerts.
Peyrepertuse is one of the so-called Cathar castles of the Aude, perched above 800 metres on a ridge of the Corbières. The fortification was already ruinous when Louis IX took possession of it in 1240 — the French crown never fully rebuilt it, leaving the upper enceinte in the state it has occupied for eight centuries.
