The 0 Euro souvenir note for Tordesillas commemorates the town in Valladolid province best known for the 1494 Treaty of Tordesillas, which divided the non-European world between Spain and Portugal along a meridian drawn 370 leagues west of the Cape Verde Islands. The treaty was negotiated under papal mediation following Columbus's first voyage, and its line of demarcation — never precisely agreed upon in practice — shaped colonial territorial disputes for over a century.
Oberthur Fiduciaire prints the entire EuroSouvenir series to genuine banknote security specifications, including proper intaglio work, though the notes carry no legal tender status anywhere in the eurozone.
