EuroSouvenir notes occupy a peculiar niche — legal in format, worthless by design, and entirely dependent on tourism for their existence. This example commemorates the Valletta Saluting Battery, a fortification on the Upper Barrakka Gardens that has fired ceremonial cannon salutes since the Knights of St. John used the site. The battery was decommissioned by the British, fell silent for decades, and was only revived in 2004 — so the tradition being commemorated is, in practice, younger than many of the tourists buying this note.
