EuroSouvenir's Vatican zero-euro notes occupy a curious commercial niche — legal tender in denomination but issued purely as collectibles, they carry no actual spending power and were never intended to. Oberthur Fiduciaire prints them to the same security specifications used for genuine euro notes, including the distinctive feel of cotton-blend banknote paper, which is part of the appeal for collectors who want something that handles like the real thing.
The Vatican series has consistently been among the fastest-selling in the EuroSouvenir program, largely because the Holy See does not issue its own euro banknotes for general circulation — making this the closest most collectors will get to a Vatican-denominated paper note.
