Opmerkingen

Memo Euro Scope produces these zero-denomination "Memo Euros" as commemorative collector pieces, printed by Royal Joh. Enschedé in Haarlem — the same firm that has printed Dutch banknotes and postage stamps continuously since 1703, giving even a novelty item like this a pedigree that most souvenir notes lack. The Afsluitdijk subject is well chosen: completed in 1932, the 32-kilometre barrier dam across the Zuiderzee was one of the most ambitious hydraulic engineering projects of the twentieth century, permanently converting a saltwater tidal bay into the freshwater IJsselmeer.
