Lavo was a Montreal-based manufacturer of household cleaning and laundry products, and this note is a trade token in banknote form — almost certainly a scrip issued for internal use, likely redeemable against goods or employee wages rather than functioning as circulating currency in any conventional sense. Quebec saw a small wave of such corporate scrip instruments in the mid-twentieth century, particularly from manufacturers with large workforces and company store arrangements.
The denomination of 1,000 Dollars is almost certainly in points or internal units, not Canadian currency — no private Quebec company had authority to issue bearer instruments in actual dollar amounts.
