Reverse description Central shield bearing the arms of the Company of Merchants Trading to Africa: upper portion of the escutcheon depicts a stylized elephant's head and stars, the lower portion features a full-rigged sailing ship at sea. The shield is surmounted by a castle or tower crest above a crown. Floral sprigs flank the shield on either side. The circular legend reads 'FREE TRADE TO AFRICA. BY ACT. OF PARLIAMENT. 1750.' in raised capital letters around the periphery, within a beaded border.
