The 1851 Chilean decimal coinage patterns were produced as the government debated a full transition away from the colonial real system — a reform that finally took legal effect with the 1851 Decimal Law. The Casa de Moneda struck a small series of gold and silver patterns that year to test both the new denominations and public appetite for the change. Most were never submitted for formal approval and exist today in single-digit quantities.
KM#Pn10 is among the rarer gold entries in this pattern series. No regular-issue ½ Decimo in gold ever reached circulation.
