Iraq's Central Bank was established by law in 1947, replacing the Iraq Currency Board that had managed the currency since the mandate period. This note belongs to the first series issued under that new institution — a meaningful administrative shift, though the practical machinery of note production remained unchanged, still contracted to Bradbury Wilkinson in Surrey as it had been for years prior.
Faisal II was king in name from 1939, but a minor throughout most of this note's issue window, with his uncle Abd al-Ilah serving as regent until 1953. The monarchy itself was abolished in the July 1958 revolution, which effectively ended this series.
