1/2 Mithqal - Mohammad Khudabanda Yazd, Type A

Mohammad Khudabanda — better known by the regnal name Shah Mohammad I — came to power in 1578 following the death of Shah Tahmasp I's successor, Ismail II, whose ten-month reign ended in suspicious circumstances. Khudabanda was nearly blind at accession, a condition that made his rule effectively a contest among Qizilbash tribal factions from the outset. The Yazd mint was among the more active provincial gold-striking facilities during this transitional period, producing fractional denominations when central authority was unstable enough to fragment production geographically.

Type A designation distinguishes this from later die varieties issued under the same reign.
