Obverse description Central field displays the Stanley crest: a large eagle with outstretched wings, facing left, perched atop a swaddled infant (the 'Eagle and Child') resting upon a cap of maintenance, itself set upon a heraldic coronet. The design is rendered in high relief with fine feather detail on the eagle. The encircling legend SANS · CHANGER (meaning 'Without Change,' the Stanley family motto) arcs across the upper field in bold Latin characters, while the date 1733 appears in the lower exergue. The coin is bordered by a continuous milled dentillated rim.
