| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field occupied by the quartered crowned royal arms of Castile and León, displaying castles and lions in alternate quarters, surmounted by an ornate royal crown. The armorial shield is flanked by supporters and enclosed within a circular border. The surrounding legend reads CAROL III D G HISP ET IND R in Latin characters, identifying Carlos III as King of Spain and the Indies. A small ornamental rosette appears to the right of the shield. The coin bears a small suspension hole pierced at the top, consistent with having been used as a pendant. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
Carlos III inherited the Spanish throne in 1759 following the death of his half-brother Fernando VI, who died without an heir. The Santiago mint — established in Chile in 1743 — was still relatively young when this piece was struck, and early output from the casa was often irregular in planchet preparation, which accounts for the clipped and uneven flans frequently encountered on half reales of this period.
