Obverse description Laureate and draped bust of King Carlos III facing right, rendered in the armored portrait style introduced for the bust coinage. The effigy displays elaborately dressed hair tied with a ribbon at the nape, with a laurel wreath crowning the head. The circular legend around the periphery reads CAROLUS III DEI GRATIA with the date below, all within a toothed or beaded border. The field exhibits the characteristic shallow relief of the Mexico City Mint's early bust coinage production.
