The Federal Republic of Central America was already fracturing by 1830 — Liberal and Conservative factions had been fighting since at least 1826, and the confederation would formally dissolve in 1838. Coins like this one were struck in the shadow of that disintegration, with individual states increasingly operating as autonomous powers even before secession was official. Honduras's mint at Tegucigalpa struggled with inconsistent silver supplies and crude equipment throughout this period.
KM#18 is known for irregular planchets and uneven strikes, a direct consequence of the Tegucigalpa facility's limitations rather than careless workmanship.
