Obverse description Plain copper field entirely devoid of portraiture, bearing a centrally positioned three-line inscription in large raised Latin capital letters: 'P.' on the first line (denoting the Popayán Mint), followed by 'AÑO' on the second line, and the date '1813.' on the third line. A small floral or rosette ornament appears below the date in the lower field. The entire design is enclosed within a boldly milled, rope-like border of radiating reeds running continuously around the coin's periphery, characteristic of the emergency provincial coinage struck during the Colombian War of Independence.
