The .500 fineness — half silver, half base metal — reflects the interwar degradation of subsidiary coinage that had been creeping through British colonial issues since the early 1920s. Production for Seychelles was always in small quantities; the archipelago's tiny population meant mintages that leave genuine gaps in surviving examples today.
