| 表面の説明 | Central device featuring the radiant Sol de Mayo, depicted as a human face with stylized alternating straight and wavy rays emanating from a raised circular disc. The sun effigy occupies the majority of the field, rendered in high relief with clearly defined facial features. The circumferential legend PROVINCIAS DEL RIO DE LA PLATA is arranged around the periphery in Latin capitals, separated by a small six-pointed star at the base. The coin's edge is framed by a reeded border. |

Potosí's mint had been producing coinage for the Spanish crown for over two centuries when the independence movement forced a sudden change of allegiance. In 1815, royalist forces still controlled the city, yet the mint struck coins in the name of the rebel Provincias del Río de la Plata — a political contradiction explained by the city's repeated capture and recapture during the Argentine War of Independence, which saw Potosí change hands multiple times between 1810 and 1825.
The CJ#18 designation places this half sol within Cunietti-Ferrando's specialized reference on Río de la Plata coinage, which remains the authoritative source for distinguishing the numerous die varieties produced under chaotic wartime minting conditions.
