Jersey's fractional bronze coinage of this period existed entirely outside the British imperial system — the island retained its own currency denominations based on thirteenth-century Norman customary divisions, which is why a twenty-fourth of a shilling makes mathematical sense locally but looks bizarre anywhere else. Westminster repeatedly pushed for metrication of Jersey's coinage during the 1860s and 1870s; the States refused each time.

KM#7 was struck at the Royal Mint across multiple dates within the issue span, with the 1877 being the opening year of what became a long production run tied to steady demand from the island's growing agricultural economy.
