Prithvi Bir Bikram Shah died in December 1911 at age 35, having reigned since 1881 almost entirely under the political shadow of the Rana prime ministers who held actual power. This quarter mohar was struck during the final year of his reign, when Jung Bahadur Rana's successors still controlled the treasury and mint. The Shahs would not begin reasserting meaningful royal authority for decades.
