| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents the Shia Kalima (profession of faith) in three horizontal lines of bold Arabic script, separated by ruled linear borders, filling the entire flan. The uppermost line reads 'La ilaha illa Allah' (There is no god but God), the middle line 'Muhammad rasul Allah' (Muhammad is the messenger of God), and the lower line 'Ali wali Allah' (Ali is the friend/vicegerent of God), the last phrase being the distinctive Shia addition to the Sunni Shahada. The calligraphy is executed in a compact thuluth style, deeply struck into the gold flan, with the irregular hammered edge visible at the periphery. The unadorned field and absence of a border legend are typical of Afsharid provincial gold coinage of this period. |
