Reverse description The arms of the Company of Merchants Trading to Africa occupy the central field, featuring a divided shield with an upper half depicting a beehive and dolphins amid foliage, and a lower half displaying a three-masted sailing ship flying the British ensign on open seas. The shield is surmounted by a crest of an elephant bearing a castle tower with a flag, and flanked by two standing native African figures as supporters, each lightly draped, one holding a bow and the other a horn. A decorative cartouche forms the base of the arms. The surrounding legend reads 'FREE TRADE TO AFRICA. BY ACT. OF PARLIAMENT. 1750.' in raised capital letters along the full circumference.
