Venezuela redenominated its currency in October 2021, removing six zeros from the bolívar soberano to create the bolívar digital — the third such redenomination in thirteen years. This coin is a product of that third collapse, issued by a central bank that had watched two previous currencies become arithmetically unworkable within a single decade. The 2021 redenomination was announced with only weeks of public notice.
